Sweet Chili Sesame ‘No Chicken’

When we originally created this recipe, we developed it with our crock pot in mind. What ended up happening though, was the two of us sitting there listening to our stomachs growl for hours while this freaking intoxicating aroma took over our kitchen. We don’t want you to suffer the same fate. So while we think our crock pot is the cat’s pajamas, we adapted this recipe for the stove top. Good things DO come to those who wait, but why bother when you could have it right MEOW?!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package Comrade Cluck ‘No Chicken’
  • 1 small crown broccoli, chopped into florets
  • 1/2 red pepper, sliced thin
  • 1/2 yellow pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Sweet Chili Sesame Sauce

  • 1/4 cup Asian sweet chili sauce
  • 1/3 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder or 3-4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder or 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Garnishes
  • toasted sesame seeds
  • chopped green onions

PREPARATION

1. Empty your Comrade Cluck into the bottom of a medium sauce pan.
2. Whisk the Sweet Chili Sesame Sauce ingredients together in a medium bowl & pour over the shreds.
3. Cook on low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally & adding a few tablespoons of water as necessary to keep from sticking.
4. Mix cornstarch and water then add it to the sauce pan. Stir well.
5. Add veggies and crank it up to high for 15-20 minutes until sauce thickens and broccoli is tender.
6. Serve with rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
