A growing company with a sustainable future

We’re No Evil Foods and we make Plant Meat.

Founded in 2014 by Sadrah Schadel and Mike Woliansky, we’re proudly based in Western North Carolina. We’re growing steadily — and we’re regularly adding more people to our team, even while unemployment rates rise in our region. We are proud to offer higher-than living wages (currently about $17 an hour) and benefits you’d expect to find at a much larger company, plus plenty of fun perks, too.

We proudly provide Living Wages to every employee.

That means the wages we pay are high enough for people to actually live on in our area.

We believe that everyone deserves gainful employment, so we partner with UpSkill WNC to connect with job candidates who encounter barriers to a living wage job. This allows us to provide a fresh start or second chance, including to formerly incarcerated individuals.

Together we can build a healthier, more sustainable, and cruelty-free future. Our motto is Do No Evil — and that starts with doing right by our hard-working team.

What we do:

No Evil Foods was started by our two co-founders in 2014. Back then, they sold our Plant Meat at local farmers markets. Now we’re sold in all 50 states — in over 5,500 stores! We’ve grown to employ over 100 team members at our brand-new, smoke-free facility in Weaverville, just north of Asheville, N.C.

As a food manufacturer, our facility (called “the Axis”) is not only clean and sanitized (with extra measures added during COVID-19). We also train our team to adhere to all FDA rules under the FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) known as cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices).

What we offer:

We make Plant Meat five days a week, across three shifts. You’ll work hard, alongside positive and committed team members, with all the supplies and support you’ll need.

The benefits

  • Living Wages: We pay $13.65 per hour at a minimum, with an added incentive of $2.25 per hour during COVID-19. Production employees now earn, on average, approximately $17 per hour.
  • Additional incentive for all hourly team members: Our workers are essential! We’ve extended their $2.25 per hour incentive indefinitely, to show our appreciation for all they do.
  • Potential for voluntary overtime: As demand for our products grow, you’ll have potential for overtime.
  • Urgent care program from Day 1: Starting on your first day at the Axis, you can sign up for our urgent care program through Range Urgent Care. The cost of this program is covered 100% for team members (no cost to you!). It provides unlimited urgent care visits to their facility and discounts on specialty labs and services.
  • Affordable health insurance: After 90 days of working with us, you’ll be eligible for our health insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield), vision and dental (Principal). We cover a major chunk of the premiums to make it more affordable for you. The introductory-level health plan for employees costs you about $20 per month.
  • PPE (personal protective gear): In addition to face masks and hand sanitizer, we also provide the sterile protective equipment you’ll need to wear on the production line. That includes gloves, hair coverings, shoe coverings, and smocks.
  • Shoe Stipend: We offer a program to help you recover the cost of work shoes.
  • Paid time off, including 10 paid holidays per year. To recognize the diversity in our team, three of those are flex holidays, so you can celebrate however you choose. You’ll also accrue a week and half of PTO in the first year, and employees with tenure earn even more (up to two and a half weeks per year, after 3 years of service).
  • We also provide extra time-off for voting and supporting your kids’ education.
  • On-time accurate and paperless pay via direct deposit of funds, every two weeks.
  • Paid sick leave and extended paid FMLA leave, as set forth in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
  • Free parking in a safe, secure lot.
  • We operate on a three-shift schedule and work with team members to find the best roles and shift to fit their needs.
  • On-the-job training and ongoing learning opportunities.

More perks

We believe that, since you spend so many hours at work, you might as well have some fun while you’re here. That’s why we offer these perks:

  • Free weekly team meals: Our innovation chef serves healthy, delicious vegan meals to the whole staff every single week.
  • Free products: Team members get to take home plenty of Plant Meat to share with their family and loved ones.
  • Free snacks: We keep our breakroom stocked with vegan snacks, coffee (from Brewing Good Coffee, which supports animal welfare organizations), and kombucha on tap from our friends at nearby Buchi. These are 100% free to all employees.
  • Employee appreciation events: We like to find ways to say “thank you” for all you do!
  • Reward and recognition program: Earn gifts based on milestones or anniversaries.
  • Employee referral bonus program: We want to hire more awesome, hard-working people like you. So, we pay you when you connect us with someone who gets hired here!
  • This is a career, not just a job!

Want to join us?

Never heard of Plant Meat — or veganism? That’s OK.

We hire folks who are hard-working, open-minded, and eager to learn. Our Plant Meat is made from, well, plants. We use real ingredients — beans, wheat berries, and yeast, plus organic herbs and spices to create bold flavors.

Our production line looks like a super-efficient, clean, and organized kitchen. The work can be physical, somewhat repetitive, and quick-paced, but you’ll be part of a supportive, dynamic team working toward a common goal. There is cool technology to learn, skills to build, and a path to grow with the company!

In our experience, a variety of skills transfer over to food production, including manufacturing. Our team is diverse, both in life and work experience. (And you don’t have to know how to cook to work here!)

We’re looking for team members who:

  • Want a career, not just a job.
  • Show up on time and are reliable.
  • Care about their teammates and where they work.
  • Want to be part of a growing company on a mission.
  • Know how to get things done — but don’t take themselves too seriously.
